Sean N. Zeitz

*Certified Specialist (Civil Litigation and Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law)

Co-Managing Director

A born litigator, Sean’s tenaciousness and relentless focus on solving complex legal issues have earned him the trust of clients, respect from the bench and even more than a few referrals from lawyers at competing firms.

Highly skilled in commercial and civil litigation, Sean thrives under pressure, regularly advocating for clients at all levels of Court in Ontario including the Court of Appeal, Divisional Court, Superior Court of Justice as well as the specialized Commercial List and Bankruptcy courts.

Sean is known for resolving challenging and often exceptional cases with an emphasis on bankruptcy and insolvency, debtor-creditor matters, receiverships, proposals, and security enforcement. Since joining the firm in 2004, he’s developed a unique expertise advising clients and litigating debtor/creditor disputes involving guarantees, fraud, transfers at undervalue, injunctive relief, and bankruptcy disputes that intersect with Family Law. He is also a "lawyer's lawyer" acting as counsel to LawPRO, the company that provides professional liability insurance to Ontario lawyers.

Sean’s clients include financial institutions, secured and unsecured creditors, debtors, trustees in bankruptcy and receivers. Straightforward and approachable, Sean’s clients appreciate his creative and often “outside the box” solutions, attentiveness to their needs, and candid advice.

As a leading litigator, many of Sean’s cases have been cited in Halsbury’s Laws of Canada and the Canadian Encyclopedic Digest and have been reported in various editions of the Annotated Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.

He holds a unique dual certification by The Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in both Civil Litigation and Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law in recognition of his ethical standards as well as his procedural and substantive knowledge in these specialty areas.

Sean teaches the Bankruptcy and Insolvency course at Rotman Commerce at the University of Toronto and speaks regularly at Continuing Legal Education seminars.

While not litigating, Sean enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and two kids. He very recently took up golfing and readily acknowledges his swing leaves much to be desired.
