Trung Nguyen

Lawyer

Creative. Fearless. Meticulous. Trung’s ability to find solutions to even the most complex legal problems has garnered the respect of his clients, and the trust of opposing counsel and the bench.

As a senior commercial litigator, Trung is often retained for his expertise in fraud, bankruptcy and insolvency and shareholder litigation. He has acted as lead counsel before all levels of court in Ontario, including the Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List, Estates List and Construction Lien), Divisional Court, Court of Appeal for Ontario, Federal Court (Trial and Appeal) and Supreme Court of Canada.

In his commercial litigation practice, Trung has acted for financial institutions (national and international), oil and gas companies, delegated administrative authorities, electricity and utility companies, supermarket chains, satellite and telecommunications companies, airlines, retirement and care homes, consumer goods manufacturers, farmers, small businesses, professionals, executives and individuals.

In his bankruptcy and insolvency practice, Trung represents insolvency professionals, creditors, and debtors.

Prior to joining SZK, Trung practiced for fifteen years at some of Canada's largest and most well-known Bay Street firms. He has taught trial advocacy at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and presented at legal and industry conferences on fraud, enforcement and extraordinary remedies.

Trung continues to devote a portion of his practice to community and pro bono causes, particularly for low-income, refugee and social justice causes. He is the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal for his work with the Vietnamese Association, Toronto.

When not litigating, Trung can be found wandering in the backcountry, outdoors with his family or cheering on his beloved Raptors. He is the proud father of two young kids, ages 4 and 6, who have already demonstrated much greater powers of persuasion than their father.
